What is classed as building waste?
Building waste is divided into three categories: inert, non-hazardous and hazardous. Inert waste includes concrete, bricks and soil. Hazardous waste refers to asbestos and electrical wiring; non-hazardous waste doesn’t impact human health or the environment.
Do builders have to remove waste?
All builders and businesses must dispose of and recycle their building waste. This is a legal requirement, as per The Waste Regulations 2011. If not carried out compliantly, you can face serious fines and even persecution .
Can you use a council skip for building waste?
No. You can only use your council skip for DIY waste generated from home improvement projects. A licensed waste carrier must collect commercial waste.
What's the difference between DIY and building waste?
DIY waste is any rubbish generated from a DIY project in your home. Your local council will accept up to two 50-litre bags four times a month*.
